Finally Some Climbing
It’s a little embarrassing to admit but after working from Boulder for over five weeks now (over the past two months), yesterday was my first day out climbing around Boulder. Nellie dragged me from the office and took me up Boulder Canyon. After polling people they decided my intro climb to Boulder should be a classic 5.11 called “Country Club Crack”. I’ll admit the climb looked amazing but I was a little intimidated. I haven’t been climbing a lot lately and had not climbed trad since early April. AND, knowing my ‘friends’ if they all agreed that this should be my initiation climb then there was probably something funky about it. At least that’s what I would do to a friend :).
The climb was actually super fun. It started out with a quick technical section that I mis-read going over a bulge and tried to go straight up. I felt like I was back in Squamish and mis-judged my ability to squeeze granite crystals and slipped off. I got right back on and climbed to the top. The mid part of the climb is amazing, not very hard or technical with very fun climbing, capped off with a small roof and some flaring finger locks. I was definitely psyched to do this climb and look forward to checking out the other climbing around here.
