I grew up in Kelowna, BC about 1hr north of Skaha and it is
still one of my favorite areas. Many weekends have been spent here...
The Skaha bluffs are located just southeast of the city of
Penticton, with over 700 routes ranging from very easy to 5.13+
(most routes in the 5.10 and 5.11 range) this area is a destination spot for climbers of all
abilities.
Check out Skaha.org for up to date information on routes and activities.
Skaha at Sunset
The Wave
Jeff on Quicksilver, 5.12d
The Belfry
James on Firewire, 5.12a
Doctor's Wall
Sarah Austin on Building a Mystery, 5.12a
Sean McColl on Improbability Conquered
Here is the extension to Building a Mystery that I did in the summer of 2000.
A hold broke in the Spring of 2001 and it took me a couple of days to figure out a new sequence.
The extension is called Improbability Conquered and tentatively rated 5.13+.
The reason for the route name is that Howie Richardson's first guide described the extension (when still a project) as moving over an improbable looking section of rock. Here's the crux move... And then the topout... |
