Boulder Wall
The boulder wall was constructed specifically for this event. Apparently it wasn't bolted down and could actually be moved or lifted. Competitors could feel climbers on the problems.

The Lead Wall
Here is the outdoor lead wall. You can't really tell from these photos but some of the panels had started to delaminate and we were worried about pulling t-nuts through the wall. That didn't happen but some of the panels did shred a bit as people scuffed their feet up the wall.

Here's some photos of mexico city from the lead wall venue.

Museum of Anthropology
On the day before the difficulty competition some of us decided to go check out the Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. I had heard that it was one of the best in the world.
Five people in the taxi... 1.5 hours, poor JJ.

Check out the description of this game. I think we have a new warm up for the Edge Junior Team.

The Competition
Here's some photos from Qualifiers and Finals. Thanks Anna for taking the qualifier pictures and Ron for taking ones for the finals.
Unfortunately I was in iso most of the time and didn't get a chance to take many pictures. The only climbs I remember seeing were JJ and Vikki's semi-final routes. Vikki's attempt was awesome I seem to remember, very inspirational.

Here's Jason Halowach competing in speed climbing.

Outdoor climbing
Jamie and I were lucky enough to meet up with Carlos who agreed to take us outdoor climbing within Mexico City. We took a city bus to within a 10 minute walk of the climbing area (of course we took a cab right to the climbing area). This area is known as the "First Generator" and is where a hydro dam used to be to power parts of Mexico City.

Medal Podium
Here's JJ after placing first!!!

Team Canada
Here's the competitors from Canada that competed in the Difficulty portion of the event.

Representing Canada were: Evan Waugh, Sam Drury-Melnyk, Alexandrea (Alex) Bigras-Masse, Gabrielle (Gabby) Bigras-Masse, JJ Mah, Vikki Weldon, Sean McColl, Jason Holowach, Jamie Chong, Mike Doyle, and Laurie Weldon (Judge).

The Bigras-Masse sisters actually live in California but are Canadian citizens and will be trying out for the Canadian National Team next year. This was the first time they met any of the Canadian team, they must have thought we were crazy. At this comp I had to explain the Sam, Evan, Alex and Gabby that no one, and I mean no one not even the Swiss, are allowed to make bigger fools of themselves than the Canadians. All in the name of good fun :)
