Welcome to the home page of Mike Doyle; a Las Vegas based
software developer, rock climber, climbing coach, beginner
surfer and definitely not a web designer. I'm Canadian and still say I'm from Vancouver
but in reality I grew up in Kelowna, BC about four hours east of Vancouver and close to the climbing mecca known as Skaha Bluffs.
The purpose of this site started out as simply a place to share some photos of different climbing areas that I had visited. When my SFU student account expired after I graduated I had to get a new domain name. I decided to come up with something creative, witty, something that reflects my personality; hence mikedoyle.ca, I really need to come up with something better. The website has expanded a little and now there are some trip reports, some surfing pictures, photos of the Canadian National Junior Climbing Team and a training manual for rock climbers that I wrote a few years ago. Sponsors
I just want to give a little shout out to the companies that go out of their way to support my climbing.
Metolius
I have been associated with Metolius since the mid 1990s, 1995 I believe. From harnesses, quickdraws, cams and nuts to crashpads,
chalk and implements of training this company has me pretty much covered.
In particular the new (Spring '08) Master Cams are awesome.
The spring action is smooth and responsive while the single stem is incredibly flexible for reduced stress on the placement while climbing above it.
The Crag Station is the finest single day cragging pack on the market and when bouldering I always feel better
knowing The Behemoth is somewhere below me. Check then out!
La Sportiva
What do you want from a pair of climbing shoes? I want shoes that fit, perform exceptionally well and are built to take the abuse of long days out on the rock. For years before I was sponsored
by La Sportiva they were still the shoe of choice for me. With a vast arsenal of shoes and footwear why would I go anywhere else? Open my pack at the
crag and you'll be sure to find a pair of Katanas - my favorite all around and warm-up shoes,
Miuras - for unequalled technical edging,
Testarossas - my 'try hard' redpoint shoes and of course the new Solutions - simply a marvel of climbing
shoe technology that has to be tried to be understood how well it works.
Blurr
Finally! Someone who understands the demands of my lifestyle... sniff... sniff. Thanks Guys. I wake up at 6am, head to the office, spend most of the day tapping on a keyboard,
grab a lunch from a local
cafe, back to work, then off to the climbing gym for a training session, followed by dinner and beer watching the Vancouver Canucks kick butt over the Calgary Flames... All in the same clothes. Ok,
maybe a change of shirts between the gym and the pub but you get the point. I want versatile good looking clothes and blurr delivers.
